Jonas Warmuth

Jonas Warmuth is a structural engineer and researcher working at the intersection of structural engineering and architecture. His work explores how digital tools can support designers in the early stages of a project, when requirements, constraints, and even the structural concept itself are still evolving. At EPFL’s Structural Xploration Lab, he developed Dragonfly3D, an interactive design framework that helps engineers and architects explore structural possibilities rather than simply optimize predefined solutions. His research focuses on interactive equilibrium design, form-finding, and computational approaches that enable the exploration of large structural design spaces while incorporating real-world design constraints. Applications of this work include stock-constrained design and the integration of reclaimed structural elements into new projects. Jonas studied Structural Engineering in Erfurt and Munich and is currently working as a practicing structural engineer at Schnetzer Puskas Ingenieure in Basel.
